Expel Israeli ambassador - Numsa

2014-07-15 17:25

Johannesburg - The Israeli ambassador to South Africa should be expelled, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) said on Tuesday.

"Numsa calls for the immediate expulsion of the Israeli ambassador in South Africa, Arthur Lenk, and the recall of comrade Sisa Ngombane from Tel Aviv," the union said in a statement.

"Israel must be politically isolated in the same way that South Africa was during apartheid."

Israel embassy spokesperson Michael Friedman said the embassy had a mandate to improve relations between Israel and South Africa.

"We will carry on doing our work on improving relations on trade, politics and other spheres of interest to both South Africa and Israel," he said on Tuesday.

Agence France-Presse reported that the death toll in Gaza, Palestine, had risen to 192 on Tuesday due to clashes between Israel and militant Hamas members.

Local officials in Gaza reportedly said 560 homes had been destroyed, while thousands of buildings had suffered damage after a week of fighting and air strikes.

The latest surge in violence was sparked by the kidnapping and murders of three Israeli teenagers and the revenge killing of a Palestinian youth.

Numsa called for a ban on Israeli products and a full military embargo on Israel.

"We support Palestinian civil society's call for an immediate, full military embargo on Israel.

"Products from Israel must not be sold in South Africa. This ban must immediately be implemented by the department of trade and industry."

Can this union rather focus on resolving the strike, rather then conven themselves with another countries issues that they need I resolve in a peaceful manner.

      Kolobe Kolobenyana - 2014-07-15 18:29

Palestine is our business...SA got political freedom because some countries made it their business idiot

      Brad Hirschman - 2014-07-15 18:37

You are the only idiot. What a stupid comment. If they jump on the fire so you will too? We should be so lucky.

  • Lynn Comley-White - 2014-07-15 17:42

What the hell has Numsa got to do with Israel? They should keep their dirty noses out of Israel's business on concentrate on their own woefully inefficient club. Damn fools!!!!

  • Shaun Cousins - 2014-07-15 17:49

how about the union spend their time and effort on being productive.

      John Greystoke - 2014-07-15 17:59

Numsa do not know what productivity is!

  • Cindy Josua - 2014-07-15 17:53

You cant even control your own hooligens now you want to subscribe another country what to do. Flop as I see you

  • Fred Smith - 2014-07-15 18:04

I have no particular opinion on this subject but it confirms to me that the unions are too big for their boots. They represent an elitist group of employed people and seek to control the lives of the rest of us. It's clearly time for someone to take control and clip their wings, something the present administration does no have the balls to do.

  • Terence Wessels - 2014-07-15 18:23

    Expel NUMSA - SA public.

  • Avital Furman-Maraney - 2014-07-15 18:23

So go ahead, expel him. The SA government keeps threatening to do it but then doesn't, why not??? Obviously they need Israel, more then Israel needs them...

  • Sheila Algie - 2014-07-15 18:28

  • Ben Petzer - 2014-07-15 18:51

Stop responding/reacting to stupid remarks made by NUMSA. Certainly the International forum will ignore them as they are a non entity in the Global context.

  • Victor Cover Mkhaliphi - 2014-07-15 18:54

The issue of Israel and Palestine is very complex. This is one of the reasons why Jesus should just come back to get this mess sorted out. These nations disgust me, there is a whole host of challenges that we are facing as people, but No not them, they decide to bomb and shoot one another, sadly so!!!

  • Sipho Simon Mogale - 2014-07-15 18:58

Expel useless unions who milk the poor

  • Grant Durban - 2014-07-15 19:07

Doesn't Numsa have its hands full impovrishing it's members? Where are they finding the time to comment on external affairs? Or have they become a political party whilst we weren't looking?

      Andre Wilmans - 2014-07-15 19:35

@Grant. Well there is no government in SA. The unions are running amok and ruining the economy. They seem to be the new leaders of doom. Not the anc. This gvt is a joke.

  • Jacques Coetzer - 2014-07-15 19:07

Haha, as if the Israelis care! Our government leaders and union leaders are bringing plastic toy cars to an opera ensamble and think they are the highlight of a Tjaickofsky(?) rendition.......

  • mandi.friedman.3 - 2014-07-15 19:14

Then South Africa may as well remove every thing that Israel invented which is used in South Africa ..ie inter park ticketing. I want to see them remove the entire lot from every shopping centre. They are such big talks.

  • Peter Webb - 2014-07-15 19:16

    WHY.

  • Andre Wilmans - 2014-07-15 19:22

Rather expel numsa and put the leaders in jail for high treason for ruining the economy of SA. Where is our president will sa is being brought to it's demise. Can't the gvt see what is happening. I suggest all motor companies, steel companies and move to Botswana and Zambia. All farmers too. Why are you still here. Waiting to be murdered and raped. Go and let this arrogant bunch reap what they sowed.

  • Saranavo Panofiwa Vurinosara - 2014-07-15 19:26

Numsa should concentrate on resolving the current strike because its members are hungry out there and they are busy talking sh*t. To hell with Numsa.

  • Todays Realist - 2014-07-15 19:40

The Union Officials should be expelled to Palestine.

  • makhosi.dingiswayo - 2014-07-15 20:25

Gaza strip has long been disputed land between State of Israel and Palestine since 1948. This conflict is not just a territorial conflict, it's a Religious war. Sunctions will never help, this is a spiritual war.

  • John-Daniel Josephs - 2014-07-15 21:39

to embark a full military unit to Israel is complete stupidity , and that coming from NUMSA union of metal workers . Not to defend your country from a militant terrorist group is saying to the world that you are not fit enough to secure your terrotory .
