No load shedding: The lights will stay on for Sunday

Mar 23 2019 20:12

South Africans are set to enjoy a load shedding free Sunday - the first time in more than a week.

"There will be no shedding tomorrow Sunday 24 March 2019," Eskom said in a statement issued on Saturday.

"The power system remains tight and vulnerable, should the system change we will inform you."

The power utility was set to halt load shedding from 23:00 on Saturday night.

"However, should the system continue to show further improvements, load shedding might stop earlier than 23:00," it said.

On Thursday, Eskom received diesel transfers which are needed to power open cycle gas turbines. Open cycle gas turbines are used when coal generating units are down.

The diesel reserves contributed to Eskom moving load-shedding from Stage 4 - when 4 000 MW are load shed on a rotational basis – to Stage 2, when 2 000 MW are load shed on a rotational basis.
