Koko steps in as acting Eskom CEO

Cape Town - Matshela Koko will take over as acting Eskom CEO after Brian Molefe quit the power utility following the damning state capture report.

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown announced on Wednesday that she approved Koko's recommendation, which was made by Eskom's board.

“I approved the Board’s request to appoint Mr Koko as acting Group Chief Executive Officer," she said in a statement.

Koko, who joined Eskom in 1996, has been the group executive of generation.

"Mr Koko has a wealth of experience and understands the challenges Eskom faces. His appointment will also ensure continuity at Eskom," Brown said.

She added that she urgently also asked the board to immediately start the process to appoint a permanent CEO.
