UPDATE: Saturday night load shedding ends

Electricity was restored to all areas in South Africa by 21:20 on Saturday, after the country experienced a third consecutive day of load shedding.

The stage 2 load shedding began at 17:00. Stage 2 means that up to 2000 MW of power from the national grid can be shed.

Residents who receive power from municipalities should search for load shedding schedules on the websites of municipalities, said Eskom.

South Africans who get electricity directly from Eskom can use the Eskom website to check schedules.

Earlier in the day Eskom said the electricity supply, while constrained, was in a better position than on Friday.

It said a cold snap was likely to add pressure to a system that was already under strain following incidents of sabotage and intimidation of staff during wage negotiations.

* Correction. This article originally said that load shedding was set to continue until 22:00. It is in fact expected to continue until 21:00.
