Cape Town - A woman accused of lodging a false injury claim with the Road Accident Fund (RAF) appeared in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Wednesday.
According to the charge sheet, Johanna Magdelena Serfontein, 49, reversed her Toyota Hilux into a car parked in public parking at the Kuils River branch of Nedbank in November 2009.
According to prosecutor W Gibson, the damage was minimal. However, the prosecutor alleges Serfontein lodged a claim for R155 745 with the RAF through her attorneys.
In the claim she allegedly falsely stated that she had to brake sharply for a pedestrian in the parking lot, causing the car behind her to smash into the back of her vehicle.
Her RAF claim was allegedly for injuries sustained in the incident, and included medical reports from seven medical practitioners and the Melomed Hospital. According to the charge sheet, the RAF refused the claim.
Serfontein’s appearance on Wednesday was her fourth since her first appearance in July.
She is out on a warning, and was ordered by magistrate Sabrina Sonnenberg to return to court on November 21.
