Cape Town - The government has called on South Africans to partake in a variety of events which will be held across
the country in celebration of Women's Month and Fin24 is responding by launching a special Women's Wealth hub as from August 3.
Women’s Month originated as a tribute to the thousands of women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9 1956 in protest against the extension of pass laws to women.
This historic march was a turning point in the role of women in the struggle for freedom and a non-racist, non-sexist South Africa.
Women have played a pivotal role in building the character of our nation, and today contribute positively on every level of life in South Africa.
They are no longer standing at the back of the queue, waiting to be educated. Women are empowering themselves vocationally and economically, while often still playing the roles of wife and mother in the home.
The theme of Women's Month this year is 'A centenary of working together towards sustainable women empowerment and gender equality', said government spokesperson Phumla Williams.
The main event for the month will take place on Women's Day, August 9, at Thulamahashe in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
"We commemorate women's month, mindful of the growing scourge of child and women abuse," Williams said.
Williams said the constitution recognises women as equal citizens, with equal rights and responsibilities.
Fin24's special Women's Wealth hub wants to engage with users on all levels.
This is a direct result of our Women's Month issue last year, when a whole gallery of phenomenal women made time in their busy schedules to write about the challenges they face on a daily basis in their work and family life.
Add your voice and help us celebrate and empower women this month. The Women's Wealth hub is not exclusively for women.
