Cabinet approves Gauteng toll tariffs

Cape Town - The cabinet has approved the revised tariffs for the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project, spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said on Thursday.

According to the revised tariff structure motorcycles class A1 would see their tariff reduced from 29 cents per kilometre to 24c. Light motor vehicles, class A2, would have their tariffs reduced to 40cs from 49.5c/km, medium vehicles, class B, would be 100c from 149c/km, and longer vehicles, class C, would be charged 200c from 297c/km.

The cabinet statement said that qualifying taxis (class A2) and commuter buses (class B) would be exempted from the tolls.

"In addition to the e-tag discount, other discounts applicable are the time of day discount (available to all vehicle classes), and a frequent user discount for light vehicle (class A1 and A2), fitted with an e-tag," Manyi said.
