Johannesburg - The SA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) wants Thursday’s state of the nation address to make clear what the government will do to provide a better business environment, CEO Neren Rau said.
“Sacci expects enterprise support, especially for SMEs [small and medium enterprises], and support for the business environment to be a key theme of the state of the nation address 2012,” Rau said on Wednesday.
He said Sacci would seek clarity on a number of issues, including what measures the government would introduce to enable businesses to create more jobs, particularly for the youth.
Sacci wanted to know what would be done to reduce regulatory bottlenecks and redtape for business, and more particularly SMEs.
Rau said the chamber would like to know how the government would provide general business support and make it easier to access finance for SMEs through the realignment of development finance institutions.
President Jacob Zuma should also explain how the government would improve the education system and facilitate greater access to skills for business.
Sacci wanted improved crime and corruption prevention strategies, especially regarding crimes against businesses.
It wanted information on the status of the National Development Plan (NDP) and its implementation programme, Rau said.
Sacci would like to know the outcomes of the presidential performance monitoring system and get a progress update on the local government turnaround strategy.
“Sacci trusts ... Zuma will use the opportunity of the state of the nation address to provide clear direction on the way forward for South Africa,” Rau said.
