Business Unity South Africa has called on the South African business community to support humanitarian efforts aimed at assisting survivors of cyclone Idai.
The cyclone rocked southern African countries Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi. The death toll from the cyclone reportedly stands at more than 750, with 110 000 people displaced.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, BUSA president Sipho Pityana encouraged the business community to donate items through the Department of International Relations & Co-operation.
"We know that some relief has been provided by South African companies that have operations in these countries. This moment calls upon all of us to lend our support to the humanitarian efforts currently underway, however small," said Pityana.
Pityana called on business to support the humanitarian efforts of organisations like Gift of The Givers and Penny Appeal SA through financial donations or in-kind contributions.
