Impact of defaults, public records on credit

accreditation
Cape Town - Defaults are provided to the credit bureau by lenders on late payment or non-payment of an account.

- If it relates to “slow payment”, “delinquent”, “absconded”, or “not contactable” with no enforcement action taken, the information will remain on your credit report for one year.

- If it relates to “handed over for collection or recovery”, “repossessed”, “revoked”, any “legal action”, or “write off” of the debt, the information will remain on your credit report for two years.

The most damaging is the negative information, which is publicly available information in your credit record, such as  judgments or court notices (administration orders, sequestrations and rehabilitation orders).

- A judgment remains on your credit report for five years;

- Administration orders remain on your credit report for ten years;

- Rehabilitation orders remain on your credit report for five years;

- Sequestration orders remain on your credit report for 10 years.

Also on your credit report:
* Personal information;
* Your credit summary and score from the credit bureau;
* Credit enquiries;
* Account history or Payment profile.
