Premier Hotels investing in new hotels in Umhlanga, Bloemfontein

Cape Town - Premier Hotels & Resorts has begun construction of two new hotels in Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal.

The group’s R380m investment will result in a 4+-star Premier Hotel as well as a 3+-star Splendid Inn by Premier.

The Premier Hotel will consist of 130 bedrooms, a restaurant, swimming pool and gym, while the Splendid Inn by Premier will feature 64 bedrooms and its own eatery.

Guests at both hotels will have sea views from every bedroom and access to the on-site conferencing facility capable of accommodating up to 400 delegates.

“Our decision to invest in Umhlanga is due to our desire to have properties in every major South African city, as well as in all secondary cities,” says Samuel Nassimov, the hotel chain’s founder and managing director.

“We have decided to offer two brand options in Umhlanga so that everyone can enjoy the Premier experience at price that suits their budget.”

Situated in Umhlanga Ridge, the new development is close to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping and to the local business district. With a new bridge and slipway to the N2 being built, guests will have easy access to the new airport as well.

Construction of the two hotels is due for completion in November 2019.

Bloemfontein

Premier Hotels is also expanding its national footprint to Bloemfontein, with the construction of a new 3+-star hotel comprising 88 bedrooms, a restaurant, rooftop function area, lounge, business centre and conference facilities capable of accommodating up to 150 delegates. This involves an investment of R90m by the group.

According to Nassimov, Bloemfontein’s centrality was also a factor in the decision to invest.

“It is at the halfway mark between most of the country’s major cities and is where five major national highways intersect.” he says.

The new hotel is situated on the site of what was previously the Stanville Hotel at 85 Zastron Street and is in close proximity to government departments, sport stadiums, as well as landmarks like the National Museum and Supreme Court of Appeal.

The first phase of construction, which is currently underway, comprises the refurbishment of the existing Stanville Hotel, with phase two resulting in the completion of 45 additional bedrooms, along with the conference facilities. The first phase is set to conclude in September 2018 and the second in November 2018.

As a property within the "Splendid Inn by Premier" brand – one of four sub-brands under the Premier Hotels & Resorts mantle - the hotel will provide luxury accommodation and the Premier standard of service at an affordable price point.

“Splendid Inn Bloemfontein marks the start of our plans to expand the group over the next two to three years. This will see the proliferation of another three Premier Hotels, five Splendid Inns by Premier and seven Express Inns by Premier across the country,” concludes Nassimov.
