Cape Town - As from Friday September 16 all Lufthansa passengers travelling in economy class out of South Africa globally will be allowed two pieces of checked-in luggage.
This was previously an allowance only provided to qualifying frequent flyers or passengers in premium economy. Each economy class traveller will be allowed two pieces of luggage, each weighing no more than 23kg and each bag limited to a dimension of 158cm.
Andre Schulz, general manager Southern Africa, of Lufthansa said this offer will allow economy class travellers leaving from South Africa the freedom to travel with additional items translating into a more enjoyable travel experience.
"As we move into the last quarter of 2016, Southern Africa becomes a very popular destination for international tourists. Cape Town is set to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world this festive season owing to its beauty, favourable exchange rates, and exceptional quality and value," he explained.
“It is only fitting that we introduce this new luggage allowance now, ahead of the launch of Lufthansa’s new year-round direct route between Cape Town and Frankfurt."
In July Lufthansa announced that commencing December 2 2016, it will extend its direct flight between Frankfurt and Cape Town to year-round.
This follows an announcement made earlier this year that it would offer direct flights between Frankfurt and Cape Town for the seasonal period.
The airline said at the time that the decision comes in light of the growing importance of the Cape Town–Europe route due to an increase in interest, particularly from European businesses and leisure travellers.
