Cape Town - FlySafair started distributing air tickets through Computicket and Checkers MoneyMarket counters at all Checkers stores nationwide on Thursday January 7, enabling customers to pay using whatever method they choose.
“Our pricing has made air travel available to many people who have not had the opportunity to do so before,” said Kirby Gordon, vice president of sales and distribution for FlySafair.
Just shy of 15% of passengers travelling on FlySafair this past December had never been on an aircraft before, according to a FlySafair survey conducted among 3 400 respondents.
More than 65% of all transactions in South Africa are still done in cash, according to Tim Murphy, general counsel and chief franchise officer for Mastercard.
“Although our online and mobile distribution channels are key, diversifying our cash-based sales options are important for our omni-channel business strategy,” said Gordon.
