Johannesburg - Wonderboom Airport's Avgas shortage entered its third day on Monday, as the city of Tshwane announced a new fuel supplier had been appointed.
"We have appointed a new service provider and we are hoping for a delivery of fuel to arrive as soon as possible," spokesman Console Tleane said in a statement.
"The city is also concerned that, upon being contacted by some of the aircraft owners at the airport and in its media statement, the [original] service provider, Energy for Africa, claims that the city is not paying him."
Tleane said "there is only one payment outstanding, for a delivery made on February 12".
He said the invoice for the fuel was received from Energy for Africa on February 15 and processed three days later. A purchase order was issued on February 21.
"All the processes are still within the 30-days threshold for payments as per the policy, which is understood by all service providers contracted to the city. The claims made by the service provider are therefore without any basis."
Tleane said Energy for Africa blamed the recent truck driver's strike for the shortage.
"The service provider had promised that supply would resume on Monday. This has not been done."
Avgas is used by piston engines, while turbine and jet engine aircraft use jet fuel.
The latter was still in good supply and aircrafts using jet fuel were not affected.
