Johannesburg - The SA National Parks (SANParks) board has appointed Abe Sibiya, the managing executive of Kruger National Park (KNP), as its acting CEO from April 1, SANParks announced on Monday.
Current CEO David Mabunda's term came to an end on Monday March 31, SANParks said in a statement.
"He [Sibiya] will have the support and assistance of the board on all strategic matters as well as help from the department of environmental affairs in terms of rhino management."
Sibiya had extensive leadership experience both during his tenure as managing executive of KNP and from his previous job where he held a senior position within the Mpumalanga Parks and Tourism Board.
"The recruitment process for the appointment of the permanent SANParks CEO will commence shortly," SANParks said.
"The SANParks board would like to thank Sibiya for his willingness to serve in this acting capacity until the permanent CEO is in place."
Sapa reported on Sunday that Mabunda could pocket millions via his shareholding in the MalaMala game farm that the government bought for more the R1bn, according to Rapport.
