Harare - Hotel and resort company the Legacy Group has signed an agreement to manage five hotels in Zimbabwe with effect from October 1 2015.
The five hotels are owned by one of Zimbabwe's biggest hotel groups, African Sun Limited, which is listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.
Speaking to invited stakeholders last week, African Sun chairperson Hebert Nkala said the deal involves the refurbishment, rebranding and expansion of the five hotels at a cost of US$60m over three years.
Legacy Group chairperson Bart Dorrestein said Zimbabwe has the potential to become one of the world's best tourist destinations.
Dorrestein said with the weakening of the rand, re-energizing the southern African and African tourism market is going to be one of the key focuses of the partnership.
Hotels to be managed by the Legacy Group include the Elephant Hills Hotel and the Kingdom Hotel in Victoria Falls.
The deal also includes refurbishment and expansion of the Crowne Plaza Monomotapa Hotel in Harare as well as the Hwange Safari Lodge and the famous Troutbeck Resort.
The Legacy Group owns and manages the Michelangelo Hotel in South Africa, among other hotels across the continent.
