Cape Sun gets own car park

Cape Town - The Cape Sun hotel in Cape Town is getting its own car park.

Work on the underground car park has already started and is expected to be completed by the end of January 2016, John van Rooyen, operations director of Tsogo Sun, told Fin24.

"We have been wanting to build a car park at the Cape Sun for many years, so it is extremely exciting for us that the project has started," said Van Rooyen.

The value of the project is about R24m.

The car park will be on three levels and will incorporate part of the old underground shopping area.

"As the years went by the shops started closing down and the underground shopping area became less and less popular. We applied to the City for permission to build the car park and received the green light a few months ago," said Van Rooyen.

"Parking is at a premium in the Cape Town city centre. We believe it will enhance the various segmentaion we attract to the hotel. This includes corporate group conventions, business tourists, leisure, tourists and Government officials."

He said it would be much more convenient for people visiting the hotel not to have to cross the road. At the same time, he admitted that the hotel's new car park won't satisfy the total need for parking so at this stage it will be reserved only for hotel residents and people visiting the hotel.
