Johannesburg - Woolworths Holdings [JSE:WHL] on Tuesday said it was honoured to
have been named responsible retailer of the year at the World Retail Congress
for the third time.
"This award honours our customers, shareholders,
suppliers and employees who understand that our country's future growth depends
on all of us doing our bit to contribute to a better environment and society
that we all share," said Woolworths spokesperson Justin Smith.
"It indicates yet again that South Africa is on the
global retail map and is competing successfully with the best on a consistent
basis."
Marks & Spencer, based in the United Kingdom, was named
joint winner.
Coop Switzerland, Pick n Pay, The Co-operative, and Turkcell iletisim A.S were also shortlisted.
