Cape Town - Spur brands itself as "South Africa's favourite eat-out experience" and now it has also scooped the best liked commercial award for 2012, Millward Brown announced on Monday.
Spur's "Sign Writing" ad shows a sign writer who keeps on downing tools because he is tempted by the Spur next door.
It was ranked 2012's best-liked TV commercial and was created by Cape Town-based Haas Communication Collective.
"This is the type of communication we love doing at Haas, especially for a real SA brand like Spur. To do work that really connects and is liked by ordinary people is very rewarding. To win this accolade is a special bonus," said Francois de Villiers who is one of the executives at Haas.
Eight out of the top 20 favourite TV commercials were for quick-service restaurant and fast-food chains.
Wimpy's "Missing Lunch" ad came in second spot, with Nando's, Debonairs and Roman's included in the top ten.
The annual Adtrack list of best-liked TV commercials by research house Millward Brown surveyed 1 500 ads in total. It evaluates the impact and liking of all brand advertising amongst the public.
