Cape Town - Media24’s online fashion store Spree.co.za has reported a 500% growth in 10 months, adding that it is just the beginning.
Krishna Motukuri, CEO of Media24’s ecommerce division, said since launching in April 2013, spree has grown by more than 500% to become South Africa's ecommerce destination of choice for women's fashion.
"As ecommerce adoption in SA continues to grow rapidly, we are doubling down on our efforts and expanding into several new product categories,” he said.
Spree is gearing up for significant expansion in 2014, in line with Media24's drive to position itself for future growth.
"Media24 was one of the first media companies internationally to realise the potential of linking ecommerce to magazine brands," said Media24 CEO Esmaré Weideman.
"The concept of 'shoppable' magazines has gained momentum in many countries. It's quite logical, actually — for decades magazines have provided their readers with fashion and beauty advice, with words, fabulous photography and great design.
"Now it has been taken one step further — to allow those loyal audiences to buy what they see in our print and digital products online."
The Cape Town based business is on course to increase its staff complement bringing in additional software developers as well as more retail and online marketing experts.
Weideman hailed the accomplishments of the Spree team and looks forward to seeing what they will achieve in the next year.
Media24 is part of global media giant Naspers which is aggressively expanding its etail footprint.
