Cape Town - South Africa’s premier spring/winter fashion showcases, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town (MBFWCT) and Fashion Week Africa will once again see thousands of local and international media, prominent global fashion buyers, investors and fashionistas converging on Cape Town from July 30 to August 1 and in Johannesburg from November 4 to 7 2015 respectively.
This follows on the heels of the successful Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2015, wherein some of South Africa’s established and emerging designers showed their latest autumn/winter collections to top local and international media.
MBFWCT 2015 will see the South African fashion industry gather to celebrate the best of fashion in the Mother City and the latest in spring/summer design. Designers will take to the ramp to showcase their design excellence as well as gain global exposure, with a line-up of local and international modeling talent to enhance the designs.
Similarly, Fashion Week Africa will feature collections from over 30 leading established and emerging African designers, culminating in the prestigious annual African Fashion Awards ceremony, which acknowledges the continent’s top designers, including the announcement of AFI’s Designer of the Year, the highest accolade to be awarded in the fashion industry.
African Fashion International (AFI) said in a statement it is committed to providing a platform to established African and South African designers to launch their brands and achieve commercial success, as well as nurture the continent’s design future through programmes like AFI Fastrack and AFI Next Generation.
"In 2015, these showcases will firmly establish and celebrate Africa’s place within the global fashion community, presenting authentic, contemporary African design to international markets by showcasing designers from across the Continent," said AFI.
Designers from Cameroon, Tanzania, South Africa, Rwanda, Nigeria, Mozambique, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Angola, and more, will be showcasing, making this a truly Pan-Continental event.
