Cape Town – Romney Park, a former five-star hotel situated on the lower slopes of Signal Hill in Green Point, Cape Town, is being refurbished into luxury sectional-title apartments.
The 26 north-facing apartments will go on sale during late 2018. Units available for purchase will include ten one-bedroom, nine two-bedroom, four three-bedroom and three deluxe apartments, ranging in total size from 51m² to 526m².
In the high-end Atlantic Seaboard neighbourhood demand for sectional-title property has skyrocketed in recent years, according to Susan Versfeld, co-owner in charge of sales at Romney Park.
In the past five years alone, property prices in the neighbourhoods stretching from Green Point to Hout Bay have increased by an average of 134%, providing appeal to investors both locally and internationally, she pointed out.
The seven-month refurbishment will leave the contemporary-colonial exterior of the building largely untouched, while the spacious interiors will be updated to provide contemporary and comfortable living quarters that come with a wide range of services and facilities, including a pool and lounging deck, 24/7 security, laundry facilities, fibre internet and DStv connections.
Interior designer Christo Koegelenberg will be working in conjunction with MLH Architects on the project.
“We envision luxury at its finest for Romney Park’s new look,” said Koegelenberg. “The building has a classic colonial style and feel, and our work will focus on amplifying that beauty while modernising the accommodations to suit the lifestyle of well-to-do residents.”
Excluding VAT and with no transfer fees payable, one-bedroom apartments at Romney Park will start at R3 090 000, two-bedrooms at R5 800 000 and three-bedrooms at R7 200 000, while the deluxe apartments, all with sizeable private gardens or balconies, start from R16 000 000.
