Court bid launched against Beyers Realty Group

Cape Town - The Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) is heading to court as a matter of urgency regarding a complaint of mismanagement of funds at the Beyers Realty Group.

According to a statement issued by the EAAB late on Friday afternoon, the complaint was lodged with the board via its whistle blower hotline.

"Following an in-depth investigation into the complaint, the board has now briefed its attorneys to deal with the complaint in court as a matter of urgency," stated the EAAB.

"Any member of public with any information in respect of the conduct of Beyers Realty Group and its members - or any other complaint for that matter - is invited to contact the board on 087 285 3222."

Last week, four former estate agents of Beyers Realty Group lodged an application in the Western Cape High Court for the liquidation of the company.

Roux Potgieter of BM Attorneys, acting for the applicants, told Fin24 the application is on the roll for consideration on October 4 2016. The applicants are owed a total of about R430 000 in commission.

He said this process would enable the establishment of the full extent of possible misappropriation of trust funds and hopefully enable recovery of those funds.

Beyers Swanepoel Trollip, co-director of Beyers Realty, told Fin24 last week that he is addressing the matter, but could not comment any further because it is now sub judice. He added that he has requested the EAAB to meet with him urgently.

Beyers Swanepoel Trollip and his business partner and husband Leonard are the two directors of the company. Potgieter has also been instructed to lay criminal charges against both of them in their personal capacities.

Beyers Swanepoel Trollip told Fin24 two weeks ago that he was shocked to discover that millions have "disappeared" from his trust account. He has laid fraud charges with the police to establish what happened to his missing R6m.
