Cape Town – The rapidly expanding long term development portfolio at the V&A Waterfront will now be driven by Martin Kearns.
Kearns has been appointed as executive for development for projects spanning the next tien years.
He qualified as a chartered engineer in the UK and cut his teeth as part of a team involved in the roll out of Walmart stores in China and the development of the new airport terminal in Hong Kong.
As part of Eurocape South Africa’s developments in Cape Town, Kearns oversaw the construction of Mandela Rhodes Place and the Taj Cape Town Hotel (a joint venture with the Tata Group).
He has also been a consultant to the Western Cape government on property regeneration matters.
V&A Waterfront CEO David Green said development at the Waterfront has upped a gear and requires strong leadership to drive the active development phase it is in.
“The V&A Waterfront is one of the prime development sites in not only South Africa, but Africa too. It is an honour to take on this role and the new challenge it presents,” said Kearns.
Growthpoint [JSE:GRT] owns 50% of the V&A Waterfront, an investment valued at some R4.9bn.
