Harmony Gold [JSE:HAR] announced on Wednesday morning that shifts at its underground mines would resume after Eskom deescalated the level of load shedding.
The mining group halted shifts after Eskom instituted stage 6 power cuts on Monday evening between 6pm and 10pm, and asked mines to help conserve power. Eskom is currently implementing stage 2 load shedding, which it expects to continue until 11pm n Wednesday.
"Monday's night shift and [Tuesday's] day shift at all the company's underground mines were cancelled in response to an urgent request from power utility Eskom for power usage to be reduced immediately to levels required only for the maintenance of essential services," Harmony said.
