Amcu continues with strike action at Sibanye-Stillwater

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) has continued its strike over wages at Sibanye-Stillwater into Monday, the mining group said in a media statement.

The protected strike started on Wednesday evening. While the mining group recently concluded three-year wage deals with the National Union of Mineworkers, Solidarity and UASA, talks with Amcu broke down over wages.

Sibanye [JSE:SGL] on Monday morning said that, while attendance at its gold operations had improved over the weekend, it still remained low.

"The situation remained relatively stable over the weekend, with visible intimidation limited to the Beatrix operations in the Free State," it said. "Management is pleased to report that no significant violence was reported over the weekend."

Sibanye-Stillwater was granted a court interdict on Friday to stop unions committing acts of violence, intimidating non-striking workers, or damaging mine property.
