Cape Town - Striking workers at Northam Platinum's [JSE:NHM] Zondereinde
mine in Limpopo have ignored a court order to return to work, the
junior miner said on Thursday.
The company obtained an obtained an interdict from the labour court that declared the work stoppage illegal.
On Wednesday employees were served with the court order to resume work, following a sit-in that started on April 2.
The strike relates to rock drill operators demanding bonus increases of about 38%.
"The dismissal of employees is a very last resort and follows management's various appeals to the disaffected employees to resume their normal duties and to use the dispute resolution procedures which are available to them", the company said in a statement.
It said that it wants to consult with trade union Num.
"Management is trying to secure a meeting with the senior structures of the Num, and welcomes any further talks at an operational level."
Revenue losses amounting to R62.7m was reported on Tuesday.
Northam, which is one of the country's smaller platinum producers, managed to escape last year's violent labour unrest unscathed.
Midday shares of Northam traded down 2.67% at R36.50.
