Stellenbosch - The sixth International Conference on Competitive Manufacturing (Coma ’16) is taking place from January 27 to 29 2016 in the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (Stias).
It is sponsored by the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP).
The aim of the conference is to create a platform for industry, academia and government to scientifically address - through international co-operation - issues related to resource efficiency for global competitiveness.
The conference will present recent developments, research results and industrial experience in the field of manufacturing. A further objective of the conference is to be a generator of innovative ideas and fruitful collaboration both locally and abroad.
“Over 100 leading production engineers from around the world, including a large number of representatives of leading manufacturing companies from the aerospace, automotive, tooling, biomedical and other high tech industries, have already confirmed their participation,” according to Dr Tiaan Oosthuizen, chair of the conference and staff member at the Department of Industrial Engineering at Stellenbosch University.
In order to increase awareness of the event and to create opportunities for knowledge sharing amongst relevant South African stakeholders, focused workshops for local academia and industry are scheduled in combination with the opening of the Stellenbosch Technology Centre – Laboratory for Advanced Manufacturing on January 26 2016.
Key topics to be presented and discussed by leading industry experts at these workshops include Industry 4.0 and Learning Factories.
According to Oosthuizen, this often sets a benchmark, enables the direct comparison with research and opens opportunities for a vast exchange of ideas.
"This is an ideal opportunity for the local industry to learn about what’s happening in the world of advanced production engineering from the international experts at this flagship gathering," he added.
