The Black Business Council (BBC) has elected Javed Malik as chair of the BBC Transport Portfolio Committee.
The primary aim of the committee is to liaise and engage the Department of Transport on policy related matters to ensure that the legislative framework is able to advance the course of transformation so that black business participates in key operations within the sector.
He is also the co-chair of the Regional Aviation Working Group of the SA Chapter of the BRICS Business Council.
The BBC said in a statement that Malik brings with him "vast aviation management skills, industry knowledge and experience, and also has established networks with key stakeholders in the industry".
Malik is the co-founder of PAK Africa Aviation, which owns Johannesburg-based low-cost aviation company Skywise Airlines.
Airports Company SA (Acsa) has suspended Skywise's flights since December 2 2015 due to unpaid airport charges for landing, take off, parking of aircraft and related service charges.
