Johannesburg - About 1 200 workers embarked on an illegal strike at Eskom's Matla power station, state radio SABC reported on Monday.
Eskom's main spokesperson could not be reached for comment and the radio report did not say how output from the 3 600 megawatt power station had been affected.
Meanwhile, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa on Monday rejected the state-owned power utility's 5.6% wage rise offer.
The trade union is demanding an increase of R3 000 ($300) across the board, it said.
