Cape Town - Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), South Africa’s port terminal operator and one of the four operating divisions of Transnet SOC (State-owned companies) has been nominated among the top three finalist of the 2015 Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Africa Awards.
The BCI Africa Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of business continuity professionals and organisations living and operating on the African continent. TPT’s nomination comes hot on the heels of an effective recovery programme implemented at the Ngqura Container Terminal and at the Durban Roro Terminal, following operational challenges the company had to contend with.
Zeph Ndlovu, general manager for risk and corporate affairs, said the TPT operation, while locally based, services international customers, who make use of various port terminals across the world.
"It is for this reason that it is critical for TPT to dispense first world service if we are to remain competitive in the face of a competitively active global environment," said Ndlovu on Tuesday.
“Operational challenges are part and parcel of the business uncertainty within which we have to operate. It is for this reason that we have programmes in place so that we contain the extent of the degree of grief to our customers while we remain a competitive value chain.”
