Johannesburg - South African aluminium products maker Hulamin [JSE:HLM] swung to a full-year profit, but warned on Monday it could lose 10% of its profit if power cuts by Eskom to its operations continued.
Cash-strapped Eskom is scrambling to get new power plants online to cope with rising demand as aging infrastructure becomes increasingly unreliable.
The utility has been implementing controlled outages to prevent demand from exceeding supply, which could overwhelm the national grid. Eskom has also asked firms that use high amounts of electricity to reduce as much as 20% of their usage.
