Samsung is only expected to release its Galaxy Note 9 phablet in the third quarter of 2018, but phone specs have already been leaked online.

According to Samsung insider Ice Universe, the Note flagship will have similar screen dimensions to the previous version, but be slightly wider and thicker.

Fans can expect a minimum of 64GB on board storage and the smartphone could be powered by either a Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 chipset, according to the Android Authority.

In keeping with previous versions, the stylus will likely be integrated into the smartphone's body, and be more sensitive to pressure.

The thicker body is likely important to accommodate a more powerful 4 000mAh battery.

Battery power

However, Samsung will no doubt be cautious about battery power after the debacle of the Note 7 which was recalled because of a battery design flaw that caused the device to burst into flames.

According to Techradar, the Note 9 was ready for launch by the end of March 2018, but is being held back to be launched ahead of Apple's next iPhone in September.

RAM for the Note 9 is rated at anywhere from 6GB to a whopping 8GB and some reports suggest a special version with 512GB of memory on board will be launched.

GSMArena says the Note 9 will have a dual lens, 12 megapixel (MP) camera with an f/1.5 f-stop (similar to the Galaxy S9) which would put the device in the top mobile phone category for low-light imaging.

Fans can also expect a similar rear-mounted fingerprint reader setup made popular by Chinese giant Huawei.

In terms of cost, the Note 9 is expected to have an international launch price of about $1 000 which roughly translates into a R1 000 a month contract for South Africans - if the device is launched here.

3D model marketplace CGTrader is showcasing different versions of the Galaxy Note 9 - all available for purchase.

The expected international launch date is August 9.

Samsung does not comment on devices prior to their official launch.
