Update: The SA Post Office website was, as of 23:30 on Thursday March 23, again functioning. The website for Postbank was however still down in the early hours of Friday morning.
Johannesburg - The website of the South African Post Office has been down for an unknown number of days, allegedly due to unpaid domain fees.
Attempts to access www.postoffice.co.za yields a page stating: “This site can’t be reached … www.postoffice.co.za took too long to respond.”
Fin24 tried to make contact with officials from the Post Office via email and telephone. These were not successful.
MyBroadband reported earlier in the week that payment for an amount of R125.40, invoiced on 1 February 2018, had not been made by owners of the post office domain.
The downtime comes as the Post Office readies to distribute social grants to millions of South Africans in collaboration with the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).
