Seasoned business editor and financial journalist Ron Derby has been appointed as the new editor of Fin24.
Derby joins Fin24 on 1 April, after presenting the business show on Power FM for the past year.
"I am excited to be joining Fin24 and the larger Media24 family, and look forward to playing my part in building it into the premier business read in South Africa and on the continent," said Derby.
A former editor of Business Times and deputy editor of Financial Mail, Derby brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Fin24. He started his career in financial journalism at Moneyweb in 2003 before moving to Business Day, Bloomberg and the Financial Times in London.
"Being a media business that has by and large already made the leap to the digital age, it provides an amazing platform for innovation for just how we go about bringing depth to economic, political and corporate news. Most importantly, it’s going to be fun, filled with lots of learning for all involved," Derby said.
Fin24 is South Africa’s largest digital business publication with over 300 000 active daily users.
News24 editor-in-chief Adriaan Basson said he was overjoyed for Derby to join the Fin24 reporting team.
"Ron joins us at a very exciting and challenging time for South Africa's economy, in general, and the media industry, in particular. He will steer and shape Fin24’s coverage of the business community as we deepen our coverage of the financial sector and the economy."
