Primedia broadcast boss placed on leave, facing probe

CEO of Primedia's broadcast division, Eric D'Oliveira, has been placed on leave pending an internal investigation, according to an internal circular at the company, which Fin24 has seen.

This comes just weeks after the resignation of the group CEO.

An internal message from the chair of the Primedia board, Phumzile Langeni, said D'Oliveira would be on leave while the investigation takes place. The probe was regarding an undisclosed "policy matter".

'Policy matter'

"We are investigating a policy matter that requires our attention…It is very important to note that no conclusions have been drawn and the process is entirely free of judgement," the internal memo said.

A Primedia Group statement confirmed that D'Oliviera was placed on leave pending the outcome.

"The matter is now subject to due process and as such, it would be inappropriate to comment further until it has been resolved. Once an outcome is reached, we will communicate, as appropriate, with relevant stakeholders," the statement said.

In the notice, Langeni said the investigation would be led by the group's chief financial officer, Chris Patricios, and that the acting Primedia Broadcast CEO during the investigation would be Geraint Crwys-Williams.

In February, Primedia confirmed that its group CEO Omar Essack resigned from the company, following the commencement of his "personal leave".
