Pharma workers launch pay strike, Adcock says not hit

Cape Town - Pharmaceutical workers launched an indefinite wage strike on Friday, likely affecting production and distribution depots, a union official said.

Clement Chitja said around 8 000 members affiliated to the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers union (CEPPWAWU) were expected to protest for higher wages, joining their colleagues in the petrochemical sector who started a similar strike on Thursday.

Adcock Ingram [JSE:AIP] has said the strike had so far not affected its manufacturing or distribution operations.

By 11:15 Adcock Ingram's shares were trading up 0.32% at R46.60. Aspen Pharmacare was down 0.8% at R379.35.
