TransUnion, Accenture benchmark innovation

Johannesburg - Global credit and information management company TransUnion has partnered with consulting experts Accenture on an Innovation Index.

It measures and rewards innovation and systems of innovation in organisations of all sizes in the South African public and private sectors. It also aims to provide an authoritative, objective snapshot of the current state of innovation in South Africa.

“The concept of the Innovation Index is to review innovation and establish a baseline for what innovation in South Africa looks like. In order to be considered truly innovative, companies and solutions need to be sustainable," said Claire Fawbert, director: product development and innovation, analytics and decisioning solutions at TransUnion.

"Our role is to use our wealth of data and experience to assess all Innovation Index entrants from a risk and sustainability perspective, to ensure they are stable and will continue to contribute positively toward South Africa’s economy well into the future.”

The Innovation Index awards innovation in two tiers: Innovation Masters and Innovation Concepts. The Innovation Masters category aims to identify companies that embrace and exude innovation in everything they do, including encouraging innovation with their employees, as well as how they leverage technology and service delivery to innovate.

It also looks at social, environmental and ethical responsibility, ensuring innovation lies within these bounds. Innovation Concepts are awarded to concepts that impact on social values.

“Innovation is what drives new ideas, new products and new services, and as such it is key to the sustainability of a country. Innovation should also revolve around improvement – filling a niche or enhancing an idea," said Fawbert.

"At TransUnion we believe that information lies at the heart of innovation, enabling smarter decisions to empower individuals, families, companies and communities to make the big decisions that improve lives."

The Innovation Conference and Innovation Index Awards take place on February 26 2015 in Johannesburg. Obtain tickets here.
