Cape Town - Jurie Muller’s passion and dedication to his work made him the winner of the Deciduous Fruit Industry's 2013 Farmworker in a Managerial Position award.
He is a man who finds joy and fulfillment in his work.
On the one hand the joy stems from the seasons and budding of trees and plants he works with, but on the other hand it is linked to the development and growth of the people around him.
The prize included a study tour to Europe, which was according to Jurie, “a once in a lifetime experience”.
Muller (48) is from the farm Lakenvlei in the Ceres-district.
"You are never too old to learn and this prize inspired me to do more courses. I feel I can do better and more with the co-operation of the farm," said Muller.
One of the highlights of his tour in February 2014 was a visit to the annual Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Germany.
“More than 50 000 people under one roof with one joint goal in mind namely the marketing and promotion of fruit and vegetables, is something I will never forget," said Muller.
"South Africa’s stall in Hall 7 swarmed with marketing agents and others who only want to do business.”
According to Jurie he was astounded to notice how other African countries like Nigeria and Ghana enjoys a growing importance on world markets.
