Cape Town - Two horses have tested positively for African horse sickness on a holding situated between Saron and Porterville, south east of the R44.
As a precautionary measure a containment zone has been declared in terms of the Animal Diseases Act.
No horses, mules, donkeys or zebras may accordingly be moved within, into, out or through this declared area and specifically on the R44.
The area is bordered by the N7 from the Berg River to the Piekenierskloof pass in the north and from the Piekenierskloof pass along the Olifantsrivier mountain range to the Grootwinterhoek mountains in the east and on to Gouda as the Southern border.
The Western border is the Berg River extending from Gouda through to the N7 in the north west.
This movement ban has come into effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
