SA mad about coke, slap chips ads

Cape Town - South Africans seem to love Coke, McCain Slap Chips and a double dose of Telkom when it comes to their favourite ads.

Newcomer McCain SA impressed audiences with its recently launched Slap Chips advert, enough to be voted into the top 10 ads list.

According to the Millward Brown Best Liked Ads list South Africans voted Coca-Cola: Share a Coke and a smile with Bobby as the best liked ad for the fourth quarter of 2014. McCains made it into the 5th spot, with Telkom clinching two of the top ten spots.

The Millward Brown Best Liked Ads list celebrates ads that have been rated as the ‘most liked’ by SA audiences and releases a top ten list for each quarter of the year.

Telkom: Sunshine Playgroup; Telkom: Cribs; Engen and Wimpy: Happy Song; BMW: Happy End; Listerine: Half job; Savanna Dry: Angry Lemon; KFC: Khuli Chana and The Streetwise 3; and Toyota: Hilux, Legend 45 complete the top 10 list.

“We are incredibly proud to be part of this prestigious list. The McCain Slap Chips Advert really tries to encapsulate the nostalgia associated with eating slap chips,” Deolinda Da Costa, Marketing Manager of McCain South Africa said in an emailed statement.

According to Millward Brown the measure for each execution includes prompted awareness, consumer recall of the advertising message and overall liking rated out of 10 where a 10 means the consumer loved the ad.

The survey measures in the region of about 1 900 new brand ads in both the developed and emerging markets and each ad is tested against a weekly sample of 200 people.

The sample group is recruited from the major metropolitan areas and is based on strict demographic quotas that ensure a nationally representative TV viewing population.
