Mailbox: Who will save this desperate country?

Biznews community member Warren Shalang has taken a look at the situation South Africa currently finds itself in. He reflects on what’s wrong, and given those in power are the cause of the problems, he asks who will be the country’s Robin Hood? A question many citizens must be asking themselves. – Stuart Lowman

By Warren Shalang

As we continue to celebrate and commemorate Mandela’s legacy and the 40 year anniversary of the Soweto uprisings, I took a moment to reflect on the state of affairs.

I have realised that South Africa still needs ethical leadership with a clear vision and mission. The apartheid and Mandela’s legacy became an antidote to other leader’s failures. Our leaders always preaching about apartheid and Nelson Mandela without even trying to emulate his leadership.

But who will save South Africa from despair?

Our native country is indeed falling apart. And our leaders on the other side are influenced by greed and selfishness.

We experience a situation where our county’s economy is weak and there is a huge lack of youth empowerment.

President Zuma built a house worth millions of rands while the ordinary people are suffering.

The Gupta family is on the edge of capturing the state, plenty of lucrative deals are given to them and young people are denied those business opportunities.

The Minister of Finance was fired for serving with integrity and honesty. And his departure cost our country billions of rands and we’ve nearly fallen to the junk status.

Zuma is also of course looking forward to purchase a luxury aircraft worth R4bn while students lack education funds.

Who will save this desperate country?
