SA’s young democracy is holding, ejecting dark forces

Every young democracy requires challenges. Until boundaries have been pushed, sometimes beyond their limits, equitable structures will never be universally accepted. With much at stake, dark forces will always try turn the situation to advantage. Opponents against a carefully constructed Constitution, designed to make South Africa a model democracy.

So far, the checks and balances have done their job. This democracy has exposed and ejected a deeply corrupt Head of Police. It has dispatched a manipulative liar who briefly headed the national broadcaster. And yesterday the defences held against a blatant attempt to change SA Revenue Services from a doberman into the lap dog of politically powerful interests.

All it takes for evil to flourish is for good people to stand by and watch. Especially in young democracies. Fortunately, this nation has a vibrant free media. And people like Johann Rupert, Thuli Madonsela, Helen Zille and others who refuse to be idle observers.
