Johannesburg - There is still no resolution in sight for the Advertising Standards Authority, which is in desperate need of finances. Les Holley of the Levy Collection Agency says he cannot comment because yet another meeting is pending in early October.
There has been a series of meetings and several re-workings of the ASA budget, but without success. The organisation is likely to be out of money at the end of October and has had to make concessions on the required budget.
The LCA collects money from the industry through a 1% levy on advertising, primarily to pay for media research commissioned by the SA Advertising Research Foundation (SAARF) but also to keep the ASA going.
The ASA was apportioned R6.5m this year, but says more is needed - at a time when levy collections have declined in line with advertising budgets.
CEO of the Association for Communication and Advertising (ACA) Odette Roper says a decision on whether to engage Print Media SA will only be taken after the LCA board meeting next week.
