There's lots not to like about the British media, but one thing they can't be faulted on is their fierce dedication to holding politicians accountable for their words and actions.
Last week, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that he was toning down the nation's decarbonisation push on the premise that it was making life difficult for households. For instance, he claimed, each home had to have seven different bins to comply with recycling laws, and had to cough up extra money for a "meat tax".
On a television news programme later that day, the host piled into a member of Sunak's Cabinet, facetiously demanding to know when the recycling law and meat tax were enacted. The policymaker squirmed in his seat and tried to steer the conversation in another direction, because, of course, such policies don't exist.
