Dozens of housing activists and civil organisations door-stopped Western Cape Premier Alan Winde amid calls to develop parking sites in the Cape Town CBD into social housing.
On Saturday, activists commemorated Freedom Day by marching to the parking sites, which they say can be redeveloped into affordable housing, yielding 969 social housing apartments, 969 market-priced apartments, and transitional housing for 732 people.
Three of the parking spaces, all located near Parliament, belong to the Western Cape government, and the fourth - Parliament's parking lot - belongs to Pretoria.
