My wife and are retired. My unmarried daughter had a son and as she was unemployed, we decided to give him a future by bringing him up and schooling him.
For us it has depleted our resources. We live a rather frugal life; our motor car is 13 years old and looks it.
I am a qualified motor mechanic and look after the car and battle to keep it in a roadworthy condition.
My grandson sleeps on a blow-up mattress in our lounge and has done well at school, both academically and at sport.
Although we are battling to keep him and ourselves going, we will persevere in bringing him up as a good person and with a good education, so that one day he will be able to hold his head up high and say: Now it is my turn to do some good to some other person who is battling to survive.
