AVI, the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) producer that owns fishing company I&J, is embroiled in an alleged empowerment fronting scam with Main Street 198, a company chaired and part-owned by Eastern Cape-based businessman and struggle veteran Mkhuseli "Khusta" Jack.
Main Street has laid a fronting and abuse complaint with the B-BBE Commission against I&J, in which it had acquired a vendor-financed investment in a R1.2 billion transaction 20 years ago.
In its submission to the commission, Main Street said it had been "used to secure for I&J lucrative fishing rights" and "then dumped".
