A second senior official in the Matlosana Local Municipality in the North West has been implicated in dealings with a service provider.
Earlier this year Mercy Phetla, the chief financial officer, was arrested for allegedly receiving a kickback of a VW Amarok worth R1.4 million, allegedly in exchange for a service delivery tender awarded to GMHM Construction and Projects in the municipality. Last week, the DA said it was not surprised that Phetla had been implicated in yet another fraudulent payment of R3 million following her arrest for fraud and corruption by the Hawks.
