Microsoft in $1.2bn Fast bid

Jan 08 2008 11:54

Stockholm - Microsoft said on Tuesday that it will make an offer to acquire Norwegian search software group Fast Search & Transfer for 6.6bn Norwegian kroner ($1.2bn), or 19 kroner per share.

The offer represents a 42% premium to the closing price on Friday, the last trading day prior to the announcement.

The firm said Fast's board of directors has unanimously recommended that its shareholders accept the offer. It added that shareholders representing 37% of the shares have irrevocably undertaken to accept the offer. The deal is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2008.

Fast Search & Transfer ASA is a leading provider of enterprise search solutions.

Goldman Sachs International acts as financial advisor to Microsoft; Merrill Lynch International acts as financial advisor to Fast Search & Transfer.

I was a victim of apartheid. I still can't come to terms of the injustices perpetrated against other human beings. I find it difficult to understand how others who want us to remember their place in history when in fact they are guilty of the same atrocity and please don't tell me apartheid was not as bad as the holocaust cos to me it was worse.

They supported apartheid and embrace it. So what you are saying is that, you can live the best you can, by been part of a system that systematically undermines and exploits other human beings. The holocaust did the same thing. Surely you must be voluteeringly blind and deaf to the other peoples suffering to live a life like that.

You've manipulated my facts to conclude that I'm an Hitler admirer. Now listen very carefully, all I was saying is that after world war 2 Jewish people settled in SA and accepted apartheid and in doing so enriched themselves. This they did after been victims of the holocaust. Surely they should have learned not to promote evil. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

What has Zille got to do with Microsoft. But since we are on the topic please let me help you right "YeahYeah", there was no way in hell that anybody in the world would have stopped apartheid as the ANC was backed by the communist and the west would not allow this. I would bet you anything that if communism did not stop apartheid would be live and well in SA. Sorry i know it hurts that you thought that your bit helped with stopping apartheid. We are small fish in a very big pond. On your point about Zille, you should be ashamed of yourself. Your are an idiot and a Hitler admirer.

or you're jewish yourself. :) Nasdaq7, I have no interest in the what ifs. The fact of the matter is that jewish people enriched themselves by embracing apartheid, the very practice that almost led to their demise. I just cant see the rationale. Why would any holocaust victim embrace the very system that victimised them. And then they want us to remember the holocaust.

To judge someone for the sins of their parents is monsterous. You have not lived that person's life. There are many things that can be said about apartheid: for one, it saved Africa from becoming a Soviet communist satellite state and the economy and income of people falling to 20% of its current level. All other African nations, besides South Africa, that have declared independence from Britain have seen the incomes of their people plunge to a quarter of what it once was. An excellent example is Nigeria, Google the following: "By 2002 Nigeria's per capita income had plunged to about one-quarter of its mid-1970s high, below the level at independence. " and "During the 1970s, Nigeria had the 33rd highest per-capita income in the world, but by 1997 it had dropped to the 13th poorest." Stop dwelling on the past and just move on.

Helen Zille bares the sins of her past. Zille's parents are Jewish. They fled Nazi Germany to settle in South Africa where they accepted a white racial classification and immediately qualified for privileges that blacks were denied of and in doing so most Jewish people enriched themselves in a racially segregated South Africa. They did this premeditatedly. Such hypocrisy. To suffer the holocaust and then embrace apartheid. A system that oppressed and exploited blacks just like Germans were doing to the Jews. To take it further, Israel was an ally of the apartheid government. And they want us to remember the holocaust.
